FAQ

Do sailing tours sell out frequently?
There are times when the tours get fully booked in advance, so if you have a special date in mind for a charter, please let us know as soon as possible.
What exactly do you see during a tour?
Each sailing tour may be different due to wind, time of day and other conditions, typically we will head either south or north from Cala d’Or Harbour, where there are some beautiful bays to stop for a swim, we also sail out to sea for fantastic views of the coast.
What if I want to visit a particular bay?
We are happy to take our guest’s preferences into consideration, especially for private charters. Please, bear in mind that the final choice will be determined by the wind and sea conditions.
I have never sailed before – does it matter?
Not at all. You can either sit back and relax and let the crew look after you, or you can learn how to sail. The crew will show you the ropes.
I am a keen sailor, will I have the chance to really sail?
Of course - we encourage everyone to take the helm, under the guidance of the skipper. If you come to us with sailing qualifications and prior experience then we will give you greater responsibility should you wish it.
Will I have the opportunity of learning to sail?
Our staff are qualified and experienced, they are always happy to share their knowledge with you. You are welcome to help in handling the boat, it is up to you to participate as much or as little as you wish.
Where do you go for the sunset sail?
The wind in the evening is generally light, so this is a relaxing sail. Often we will head out to sea to watch the sun set behind San Salvador, then we will sail to Cala Sa Nau or Cala Mondrago for a long sunset and a perfect end to your day.
Is the boat safe?
Absolutely. The Vita Bel is a safe and comfortable sailing yacht. Along with your skipper there will be a crew member to make sure you feel comfortable and at home on the water. We aim to create a relaxing and safe experience for all our guests. We are stocked with life jackets should you feel you want one. The boat is examined and certified annually by the UK MCA.
Is there an age limit for these sailing tours?
While there is no age restriction on our tours, all guests under 16 should be accompanied by a responsible adult.
We have had infants and babies on board many times; permanent sun-shade is available in the cockpit and on the rear deck; push-chairs can be secured on deck or stowed down-stairs. Secure bunk-beds are below decks where a child may sleep without falling. We are happy to provide chilled food storage and a bottle-warming service.
Can we play music?
We have an iPod doc and CD player onboard. Feel free to bring your favorite music. We sometimes just listen to the sound of waves lapping on the boat and the wind blowing in the sails! Your choice.
Are dogs allowed on board?
No unfortunately, for reasons of safety and hygiene, dogs are not allowed on board.
What is the difference between a private charter and shared charter?
A private charter means that you have reserved the boat for the exclusive use of you and your guests. It can be a unique and elegant event for your group. A shared charter is sometimes possible for small groups who would like to experience an exclusive day on the boat, but sharing the cost of the charter with others, in which case we will arrange the other guests.
Are gift vouchers available for the sailing tours?
Yes, gift vouchers are available for our sailing tours and they make a perfect gift for birthdays, holidays or any other occasion! To purchase a gift voucher please contact us.
Is the Vita Bel II wheelchair accessible?
Yes, we can take wheelchairs on board and secure these on deck or stowed below if they are not needed. The hydraulic platform can be used to allow wheel-on access to the boat and later to lower into the sea for swimming. We take particular care with elderly, disabled or infirm guests, but we ask that they be accompanied by an adult capable and willing to assist them.
How fast is the Vita Bel?
It depends on the wind and who is steering but it can go up to 7.8 knots.
Am I likely to get seasick?
The Vita Bel is a steady and gentle yacht weighing 24 tons, most people do not experience any discomfort on board. Sea-sickness is a form of motion-sickness and manifests itself when the normal balancing mechanisms of the inner ear are affected by movement, such as at sea. You may want to consider light medication if you normally take it for motion sickness, in any event we keep tablets on board and we offer them to every guest as a precaution before we sail.
What if I can’t take anti sea-sickness tablets, are there any other remedies?
The natural remedies are variously; fix your eye-sight on the nearest point of land; lie down on your back in a comfortable shaded position, close your eyes and relax; take the steering position as keeping busy can take your mind off it. You might try wristbands, gums or tell the captain and he will take you into a bay for a swim, this remains the best cure we know.
Is there a toilet on the boat?
Yes, the yacht is equipped with a toilet for our guests that is accessible at all times. It is different from the toilet you would use on land, but we will give you simple directions on how to use it.
Can I stow my bag during the sail?
There is an area below deck where you may store your belongings. Please, keep in mind that we cannot take responsibility for any broken, lost or missing items.
Do you have any fun/leisure equipment on board?
Yes, we have many floating tubes, adult and child snorkel masks and various size flippers, wakeboard, fishing nets, balls, water-pistols, swimming ring and arm-bands for infants (to be used under parental supervision), swimming jackets for non-swimmers.
What should I wear and bring with me?
We suggest that you wear whatever makes you comfortable. Light colored clothing, sun glasses, a hat, towels, swimming costume, sun protection, please note that shoes are not allowed on board. During the early spring and late fall, you are advised to bring a jacket. Don’t forget to bring your camera, for those once in a lifetime shots … and your smile!
Is there a vegetarian or kosher lunch available?
Yes. Please, advise us when booking and we will prepare a tasty alternative to our usual menu. If you have other dietary requirements – just ask! We do our best to meet your requirements.; if your needs are beyond our capability, please feel free to bring your own supplies and we will keep them fresh and chilled.

You can pay by cash. We also accept Visa and Mastercard and some debit cards. Alternatively, you can pay by bank transfer to one of our accounts in the UK or Spain, details available on request.
Do you ever cancel sails due to bad weather?
The charters will run in light rain and other moderate weather situations. The only time we cancel a trip is in the event of severe or unsafe weather conditions, at the discretion of the Captain, up to one hour prior to sailing time.
What if it starts raining when we are out sailing?
We rig canopies or you can go below deck. We have found that trips where we have been caught in a rain shower have proven to be some of the most memorable, bonding experiences for our guests.
What is your refund policy in case of bad weather?
If your charter is cancelled due to bad weather, we will offer you another day to sail at no extra cost. If that date is not possible for you, an 80% refund will be made. If we cannot offer you another date, we will make a 100% refund, excluding any extra services you may have requested.
Do you offer any discounts?
We offer a discount to all our former guests who book directly with us.
Is transfer provided as part of the charter?
No, our guests are responsible for getting to/from the Marina in Cala d'Or. At times, the departure and return of your charter can be arranged at another port for an additional fee.
